  • Hi guys, love the show, yadda yadda etc. I have 2 anecdotes/concepts that could be expanded into full blown sceptical cornerstones with some work by yourselves.

    1. 'I knew that was going to happen'. I have often experienced the whole 'wow, I just thought of him and he rang' thing and have developed a little test to show that this does not actually happen. When I was young the alarm was set early and in order to get to school in time I would cut it fine and have to hustle. I developed a way of mysteriously waking up right before the alarm and turning it off right as it sounded. In hindsight it was entirely due to the alarm being on the same time for 6 years and after that time, you get used to things. To disprove the De ja Voux feeling you have to say what is going to happen before it happens. No good just feeling it. I have an iPhone and it has a 9 minute snooze to its alarm. After a while you can almost guess close enough when it will sound, but it takes a while. Everyone should try it, you cant at first guess within the same minute, but after some practice it gets down to 10 seconds. I can get within 3 seconds before and show off to people by getting phone ready before it rings. It took me months to get that close and absolutely convinces me that future sight is very accurate guessing based on years of practice., NOT actually seeing the future in any way.

    2. I just had a huge chocolate milkshake and forgot the second one but I'll put it up here when I remember.

All the best, and thanks from me.

  • Great show. I've liked Maynard from a long way back (I am ancient).

Keep doing the good things and... when are we getting a really in depth review on the status of Yowie and improbable ancient visitations a la Rex Gilroy and co?

I suppose whilst I am at it, what is the ethic of nagging your spouse or kids into undertaking ridiculous therapy?

  • Hello to all. I very much enjoy listening to your podcast while at work. Data entry is very monotonous, requiring quite a bit of focus and no thought whatsoever, much like driving. Your podcast, and others, actually makes my job enjoyable.

I find it very funny when you talk about the "drunk tank." In my part of the world that is a name for a common lockup, so called because that is where disruptive drunks are likely to spend a Friday night.

I was also confused at the seeming implication by Maynard that a person could be identified as English by use of the phrase "shits and giggles." I have been saying that since I was very young, as long as I have been able to swear without laughing. In those days it was a useful phrase since it could be modified to "gits and shiggles" for the sake of adult tolerance. Did I misunderstand what Maynard was saying, or is that phrase truly obscure to Australians?

In any case, I would like to thank all of you for producing an interesting and entertaining and free podcast.
