  • Typical sex education in Australia (or what I assume to be typical, based on personal experience in the nineties):

    - Exclusively in the form of special sessions with guest speakers.

    - No sex education in primary school. About one session per year in secondary school.

    - Sessions for 13 year olds focus on biological things like the nature of puberty, whereas sessions for older students focus mostly on emotional issues (like what to do if your boyfriend fondles your breasts uninvited, etc.)

    - In summary, I'd expect Dr Boynton to approve of the emphasising emotional issues, but to disapprove of the waiting for students to be in upper secondary school before doing so.

  • It gave me pleasure to hear the news about Simon Singh. Your report gave more details than the other podcasts. There is no stopping the train of free debate now.

  • Aaaah, don't we know what to do with sheep here in Oz and NZ. It's a pity the sheep lie about us!

Lovely recipe ideas there Chris! Were it that we could afford food that good at restaurants.

I hope you didn't throw classics like the Onedin line or the curiosity show out. Its the thing I always worry about during a "chuck out".

On the matter at hand, the interview was a great surprise. Initially I thought you had run out of good speakers.

It was great to hear that sex education by experts is now far better than we had at school. At least our small group had Eric the science master. Nonchalant chappy, but he at least explained a lot of other issues as well.

It was absolutely at odds with my mum's position on these things and absolutely at odds with the "how to Marry a Catholic" series of lectures one had to endure in the old days.

Eric the science master was "just a little bit...brilliant" for his time. Were it all science teachers I had were of the same quality.

In passing, Bruce the biology bloke was a legend as well.

If you two ever read this, thanks for the leg up you guys gave me!
