  • He seemed like a genuine and honest chap. Quite open about the lack of evidence for these critters. It's a bit strange given that pretty much everyone has a pic/video camera in their phones now that we're not seeing high quality images in quality magazines like Women's Day and New Idea.

  • The obvious error that the guy is making is the assumption that you have to be crazy or lying to see something that isn't there or to misinterpret what you see. The world of optical illusions and pareidolia puts paid to that pretty conclusively. The brain can struggle to make sense of strange things that it sees and and up completely misinterpreting them. You don't have to be crazy for this to happen.

Also the idea that groups of people make for better eyewitnesses is demonstrably wrong. Police know that they will get far more reliable testimony from witnesses if they take their statements before they've had a chance to discuss what happened. It is very easy for collective false memories to be formed by eyewitnesses discussing an odd occurrence amongst themselves and going over what they saw.

It was interesting when he said that if it were pranksters then you'd expect some fatalities because of the hunters that spotted Yowies. surely then it follows that you'd also expect us to have some Yowie corpses to examine by now.

As the previous poster said, Australia is a big and not very densely populated country but still one would expect that some remains would've turned up by now. To sustain a population of any creature you need a fair amount of them, so the question remains. Where is the physical evidence?

  • worries about having a Skepticamp in Brisbane? really? i'd turn up for that!

i'd think they can get in contact with the Queensland Skeptics at least.

  • The fact that there is no physical evidence at all for the existence or the Yowie and that certainly isn't evident on their website suggests that it is unlikely that the Yowie exists but Australia has many sparsely inhabited areas. Still, I'm not convinced and the testimonials from the Fortean Times and The Blogsquatcher don't help convince me. Still, I am sure that the Yowie will be taken up at the Rapture so we will never know!
